Vitamin D and calcium research concerns use of health supplements

Many food products now come with added vitamin D and calcium. These 2 nutrients are important for health and strong bones. Vitamin D could have a huge effect on the DNA that controls autoimmune disease. The Institute of Medicine has done a research saying many people may be supplementing their diet with too much vitamin D.

There have been more than 1,000 published studies about the use and great things about calcium and vitamin D in recent years. There were commonalities found within the studies by the Institute of Medicine. Being a nonprofit business the Institute of Medicine advices the United States govt. It was discovered that there can be no difference with people taking certain amounts of vitamin D and calcium. These amounts were 600 to 800 international units (IU) of vitamin D and 700 to 1,300 milligrams per day.

Scientists have not yet been able to discover exactly how vitamin D works in the body. It can be absorbed through sunlight or ingested from food and health supplements. Diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus and other diseases that are autoimmune are prevented better with vitamin D amounts at a healthy level. The theory is that vitamin D helps regulate the genes that impact these diseases. Vitamin D and calcium are typically found in comparable foods — cheeses, milk, oily fish and nuts.

Though vitamin D and calcium are very essential within the body and may help prevent disease, an excessive amount of could be a bad thing also. Plaque might be built up in the heart along with kidney damage if there is an excessive amount of vitamin D. There is an excessive amount of vitamin D in many supplements. This causes people to overdose on the vitamin. You should be eating enough vitamin D when you have a decently balanced diet. If you are taking a supplement, you should consider the amount of vitamin D you are ingesting.
